MEMORY LANE
When her dad, Don was diagnosed with dementia, Jane put aside her successful career as an artist and retrained as an occupational therapist in order to be able to help him deal with the disease. Jane now works full time as an OT, creating puzzles to help her patients with brain injuries rebuild their motor skills. But the new business is consuming her and she has no time to pursue her art. So her best friend, Leigh stages an intervention to break Jane out of her rut.
Leigh drags Jane to an art fair and, at a session with a psychic, Jane gets told the date she meets her soulmate. But, according to the psychic, Jane met her true love back when she was eight years old. Leigh does what any best friend would do and tricks Jane into a "secret" road trip which turns out to be them driving to Jane's home town. Jane freaks out as this means seeing her mother, Maureen. The two of them have unresolved issues since the death of Jane's Dad, Don and Jane has been avoiding contact with her.
But Leigh convinces Jane that she needs to solve 'the mystic puzzle given to her by fate' and find out exactly who her true love is supposed to be. Jane hates to agree but she honestly can't stop thinking about taking on the challenge the puzzle offers. But to do that, they need to access Jane's childhood possessions stored in Maureen's garage (which hasn't seen the light of day since the Clinton administration).
By leaping into a mystical adventure, Jane has the chance to sit with her memories of growing up, home, and the bonds of family; and by doing so, Jane's able to rebuild her relationship with her mother and embrace life again.
